Abstract

The Brazilian education system is focused on the use of exam tests to verify learning, and many professionals related to Education study and write about the topic. In this way, the objective of this research was to evaluate the method of continuous summative assessment as an evaluative strategy in the curricular component Biology of the High School of the State Technical School Arlindo Ferreira dos Santos, as well as to develop methodologies of interventions that can be used by the teachers of the other curricular components , facilitating student learning. The research was developed from a qualitative and quantitative interventionist approach. The study was conducted in a class from the 3rd year of high school in the 2014 school year. Data were collected through interviews with students and from written tests at the end of each content. In the process of continuous summative assessment, it was seen that learning is more effective when students undergo routine study. During the intervention it was found that the low frequency in classes can cause poor performance in continuous assessments, and that the lack of intrinsic motivation of students hinders their performance.
