This study investigates how fanzines and fanfictions can be used as innovative pedagogical tools for the development of reading skills in elementary education, as outlined by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The research adopts a qualitative approach, combining documental analysis of the BNCC with a literature review on these textual genres of youth culture. The results demonstrate that fanzines and fanfictions, due to their multimodal characteristics and collaborative authorship, align perfectly with the general competencies of the BNCC, especially regarding cultural production, use of technology, and development of critical thinking. The analysis also reveals that these textual genres promote greater student engagement with reading and writing practices, as well as facilitating the connection between school content and students' cultural experiences. It is concluded that the pedagogical incorporation of these genres represents an effective strategy for the formation of proficient readers in the 21st century, capable of responding to the demands of a more meaningful education that is connected to youthful realities.
